France is like a fine glass of wine--- like a vintage wine it boasts of a glorious past and has over the centuries matured to become an exotic destination that is admired and loved by people across the world. France has the ability to surprise its visitors time and again with its uniqueness and the diverse flavors of its various regions.
The attractions in France are too numerous to be listed. However, the following constitute the must do and see in France.
Eiffel Tower - France's signature landmark needs little introduction. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, was the tallest structure at 320m until Manhatttan's Chrysler Building came into existence. Ironically, the city's elite despised the structure so much that it was almost torn down in 1909. This amazing monument is today the star attraction of Paris. Take the elevator to the top to enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the city. In the evenings you can watch the Eiffel Tower all lit up and beautiful either from the banks of River Siene or you can enjoy more spectacular views of the city by night from the top of the tower.
Château de Versailles - One of the most grandiose structures in France, Château de Versailles remains one of the marvels of the world. The former residence of Louis XIV is one of the most awe-inspiring palaces in France. The palace boasts lavish interiors and spectacular formal gardens. This famous palace was designed to awe with its opulence and it certainly achieved its desired effect. Its popularity can be gauged from the fact that it attracts thousands of visitors each day. The 75 meter long Hall of Mirrors is particularly impressive with 17 huge mirrors and stucco work
Wine Tours - A holiday in France is not complete unless you have visited its innumerable vineyards. Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, the valley of Loire and Provence are some of the regions where you can opt for a tour of the various vineyards and wineries and get a chance to taste some of the best wines in the world.
Louvre Museum - The Louvre Museum enjoys the distinction of being one of the most visited, oldest, largest and most famous art galleries and museums in the world. The museum is home to masterpieces like Leonardo DaVinci's Mona Lisa and the ancient Greek sculpture Venus de Milo. An art and culture lover's delight, the museum attained even greater limelight thanks to the world wide publicity it attained through the novel and movie, 'The Da Vinci Code'.
Lourdes - Located on the foot of Pyrenees, Lourdes is regarded as one of the world's holiest places and each year millions of visitors from around the world visit the holy shrines. The town is famous for Marian apparitions that are believed to have occurred in 1858.
